Andrew, you’re right on all counts. Fact is, as much as I enjoyed poking fun, I would have gone to Celebration in an instant if I had the extra airfare+hotel lying around.

And I actually make paying to avoid Trekkies a weekly habit. Whether I’m at a Con or not.

Not to rain dooky on your grand parade of bitchery, but couldn’t your basic argument be used against all manifestation of geek cons?

I mean, at least at SW cons the chance of running into Trekkies is virtually nil. I don’t know if that’s worth $40, inasmuch as I could accomplish the same thing at home, but again, I could say that about just about every other place of geekery.

Is meeting celebrities all that cool anyway? They’re all smaller in real life. But I’m rambling now…rambling…

Well, I didn’t say I didn’t love the sarcasim. I don’t live in L.A., but moving to the Bay area is a hell of a lot closer than when I lived in Wisconsin. And really, aside from paying for the privlage to be in nerd awe for two days, all I’m really going to get from it are some photographs and the ability to say, “Yeah, I met Anthony Daniels… he’s really cool.” Then the person I was telling that story to would ask me who Anthony Daniels was and I’d be sad.

Paul, you summed up exactly what my attitude would be if I lived in L.A. I’d be there in a second, and the collectibles stuff would be the main draw.

As a world famous toy blogger… uh please humor me… I feel like I have to go to this thing, considering I just moved to California so it’s really not that far away from me. I’m only going for two days so I’m not being a responsible journalist. Hell, I don’t even know what I’m going to do when I get there. I will tell you that I did go to the Indiana one a few years back and it was kind of fun. I got lots of great pictures of weirdos that I can fall back on if I’ve got nothing else to post.

As for the San Jose thing. Yeah, I’ve been to that and it aint nothing compared to the collectables you’ll find at the Star Wars convention.
