Sure…the National Enquirer and The Star are FULL of “just a joke” entries. I don’t mind getting made fun of, as long as it’s in good taste. This whole thing was in bad taste. A close friend of mine got FIRED from his mascotting gig because someone falsely accused him of being a “lifestyle furry”! It’s NOT “just a joke” when well-meaning performers get placed in a nasty category and ruins everything positive we’re trying to do in the community. Would YOU be able to “get over it and move on” so easily if I told all the media you were an Al-Quida terrorist planting bombs all over the Bay area? I thought not. Maybe that example is a little extreme but the principle is the same.

how did I miss this? Damn it was just a joke. Whenever you tell a joke there’s the harm that SOMEONE will be offended. When you put on a silly costume at a comic book convention, you have just reserved the right for someone else to make fun of you. You got your turn in the barrel this time, someone will get it next time, that’s how life goes. Get over it and move along.

Uh, sorry Cindi, but that is where you are misleading yourself. To say that God does not care that much about how we dress ourselves is pretty inaccurate. God proclaims the human body as the Temple of Christ, so YES, God does care VERY MUCH about what we choose to wear on Christ’s Temple. Do you think God looks kindly on people wearing T-Shirts that say “God Sucks”?!
Also the “motive” of why some people dress up as animals is vitally important. If someone dresses up as a fox to worship some sort of “animal-god”(violation of the 1st Commandment), or in protest to God because supposedly God mistakenly made someone a human instead of a dragon(saying the Creator of the Universe is faulty), or to fulfill a crazy fantasy of inter-species fornication(GROSS!), it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that person is causing God unnecessary anguish.

Hmmm. Chris, I don’t think that was quite what GWS was saying. And as a Christian myself, I don’t really think God cares that much about how we dress ourselves. ‘Cuz the world has a few other problems. :-) Anyway, let’s not lose our sense of humor.

Just to change the subject (sort of), my ex-husband once went to a Halloween party dressed as a giant bunny. Women could not keep their hands off him. So maybe the furries are on to something…

I’ve seen them at Further Confusion in San Jose, but I don’t know them well enough to say they are full fringed furries or costumed performers. But I WILL say you shouldn’t automacticly “judge” someone in an animal costume as a sexually deviant “furry”. Otherwise you’re condemning all the great sports mascots into that sad category, as well as costumed performers. Some of us are even Christians(like Ultra-Gor), who care about what the Lord wants us to do with our lives.
