Every week, I stick my fingers into the dark and varied crevices of the internet tubes to pluck out nuggets of geeky news. Every weekend, I share the gems with you, the fortunate reader.
MOVIES

- A sequel to Iron Man is planned for release in May, 2010.
- Stay after the end credits of Iron Man to see an additional scene featuring another Marvel character.
- Marvel will probably announce its next big-screen project during its earnings call on Monday. Likely contenders include Thor, Ant-Man, and The Avengers.
- Judd Apatow favorite Jonah Hill is negotiating to costar with Shia LaBeouf in Transformers 2.
- Michael Bay has cast Australian hottie Teresa Palmer (previously-cast in the now-defunct Justice League) in Transformers 2.
- Lord of the Rings alums Andy Serkis and Sir Ian McKellen are on board for Guillermo del Toro’s The Hobbit.
- Sir Ian McKellen doesn’t expect to appear in the Magneto origin film.
- The creator of Chuck and Gossip Girl is penning a script for the next X-Men film.
- G.I. Joe producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura reveals more details on the PG-13, “bloodless violence” film.
- Robocop is included on MGM’s upcoming development slate.
- The Babylon A.D. Web site has a new teaser trailer for the Vin Diesel sci-fi action flick.
- Rick Yune has been cast as the antagonist of Ninja Assassin, an action film being produced by the Wachowski brothers (The Matrix, Speed Racer).
- Universal optioned Oni Press’ post-alien-invasion comic book series Resurrection
, written by Eli Stone co-creator Marc Guggenheim.
- Summit Entertainment optioned the rights to the sci-fi action script Arena.
- The U.K.’s Celador Films is producing a $10 million sequel to the indie horror smash, The Descent.
- Senator Entertainment will produce Clock Tower for yet another failed video game adaptation, this time from Capcom’s best-selling horror series.
- Jason Bateman (Arrested Development) will star in Extract, written and directed by Mike Judge (Office Space).
- Neil Gaiman is adapting his novel Anansi Boys
into a movie script.
TV / DVD

- Following the departure of actor Michael Rosenbaum after this season of Smallville, producers will replace Lex Luthor with two nemeses for Clark Kent: Doomsday and a yet-to-be-revealed female villain.
- The WB network will return in August via TheWB.com, featuring episodes of Buffy, Veronica Mars, Smallville, and Roswell.
- Reaper star Bret Harrison has started a campaign to save the on-the-bubble series.
- Actress Sophia Myles is willing to bet all of her money that Moonlight will return next season. I hope she goes broke.
- Warner Animation has released new screen shots from the upcoming badass Batman - Gotham Knight

- The creatures from Gremlins return to the small screen in a new ad from British Telecom.
- The CW might put Beauty and the Geek “on hold” for a while after the May 13 season finale, thanks to slipping ratings.
- Sony Home Entertainment announced a July 29 release date for Starship Troopers 3: Marauder

COMIC BOOKS

- Marvel has revealed Spider-Man’s newest enemy, Anti-Venom, who will appear in August’s Amazing Spider-Man #568.
- This week’s DC Universe #0 resurrected Barry Allen, who was vaporized as The Flash in 1985. DCU #0 has subsequently sold out and has gone to 2nd printing.
- Online voting has begun for on the Will Eisner Comic Industry Awards.
- Kevin Grevioux, the creator of the Underworld series, will produce ZMD: Zombies of Mass Destruction with Red 5 Comics.
- iFanboy is raising money to support David Pirkola, owner and operator of Apparitions Comics and Books in Grand Rapids, Michigan, who was robbed and shot this week at his store. Artists like Ben Templesmith (30 Days of Night) will auction original artwork to help David pay his medical bills.

- In the neighborhood of $100 million, Grand Theft Auto IV
is perhaps the most expensive video game ever made.
- Screen shots have been released for the upcoming Ghostbusters - The Game
, which will feature voice-overs from the original cast.
- Ubisoft announced a new Prince of Persia title due for the holiday season.
- Activision has revealed the list of track’s that will be available for Guitar Hero: On Tour
for the Nintendo DS.
- Both Activision and Vivendi Games will skip this year’s E3.
- The producers of Guitar Hero have locked up the rights to Aerosmith’s entire catalogue, with the exception of Rock Band’s “Train Kept a Rollin.”
- French publisher Infogrames is buying Atari for $11 million.
- A new trailer has been released for LEGO Indiana Jones
