Giveaway: Platinum Comics Prize Pack!
By Great White Snark | July 22, 2008
In honor of the big, fat Comic-Con beast landing in southern California this week, I’m giving away a big, fat set of brand new comic books and graphic novels, courtesy of Platinum Studios Comics.
Perhaps these and a bottle of Johnnie Walker Blue Label1 will offer some solace if you’re not making the trip to San Deigo this year. It’s the least I can do.
Here’s what’s in the set:
- Hero by Night #1-3, by D.J. Coffman, winner of the 2006 Comic Book Challenge
- Gunplay (Graphic Novel) by Jorge Vega, winner of the 2007 Comic Book Challenge
- Big Badz #1 by Chuck Dixon
- Hot Shot and Mighty Girl (Graphic Novel)
- I Was Kidnapped by Lesbian Pirates from Outer Space #1
- The Big Amoeba (Graphic Novel)
- The Adventures of Tymm: Alien Circus Chapters 1-3 (Graphic Novels)
Lesbians from outer space. For free. That alone is worth the effort of entering the contest, people.
All you have to do to enter to win this set of Platinum comics and graphic novels is leave a comment on this post, indicating your favorite non-Marvel/DC comic book series.
Make sure you leave a valid e-mail address in the “Mail” field. I’ll select the winner at random and announce them in an update to this post next Tuesday, July 29th.
1No alcoholic beverages are included in this giveaway.
UPDATE: Congrats to Irma, the winner of the Platinum Comics Prize Pack. Yes, I accept your entry of The Archies, but I do it with a raised eyebrow. Just so you know.
If you enjoyed this post, consider subscribing to Great White Snark by email or by RSS. It’s free.

There are non-Marvel, Non-DC comics?
July 22nd, 2008 at 9:28 am
I love me some Red Rocket 7 by Mike Allred. I’d say Madman, but it was published by DC for a short stint.

I love anything Dark Horse Comics does, but I sho do love me some Sin City! Frank Miller rocks!
July 22nd, 2008 at 2:08 pm
The Scott Pilgrim graphic novels are my fave!

Right now, I tend to be picking up a lot of the licensed properties from IDW, especially since they have all that cash to roll in from the success of 30 Days of Night (another phenomenal story!)

Well, if you’re not reading Matt Fraction’s “Casanova” series (from Image), then you can’t call yourself a comic book fan. Well, you can, but you’re comic book reading experience will be all the poorer for it.
And wait, does Vertigo count/not count? In which case, go out and pick up a “DMZ” trade while you’re picking up the trade for “Casanova.” And oh yeah, don’t forget “Jonah Hex.”

“The Lone Ranger!” Thanks…..Cindi

Comic book series: Optic Nerve. I love it, even if its presence is sparse.
Graphic novel: I’m gonna go with Cerebus, but I’m not sure which of the arcs I like best.

Blue Monday, hands down. Oni Press has never disappointed me!

Well, if Vertigo counts *points up* then I would have to say I’m re-reading the Sandman comics after all these years, and still love them.
If that doesn’t count, I’ll have to say my all time fave comic girly has to be TankGirl. There’s plenty of awesomesauce stuff out, but stuff you’re still reading 15 years later?! That’s the best.

I was digging on Jim Balent’s ‘Tarot: Witch of the Black Rose’ a bit back. The drawings were gorgeous, albeit ridiculously out of proportion.

Ummm *blushes* - The Archies.

Thor. I just love how campy it is to have a team of Supervillains called The Wrecking Crew who wield enchanted crowbars.

I know this is going to sound weird but I have the Disney Comics and love them. Found them at a thrift store and have stored them!

Ninja High School
July 26th, 2008 at 12:38 pm
BONE!
how can i be the first to say Bone?
July 26th, 2008 at 9:56 pm
Mine is Flight - stunning graphics, always great stories. I found it through a friend of one of the artists, and act like a fangirl every time a new one comes out. I know, I know, it’s a graphic novel, so I guess my comic would be Fallen Angel (IDW does it now, so it totally counts!)
July 26th, 2008 at 11:51 pm
Flaming Carrot or Scud: the Disposable Assassin. Maybe The Amazing Screw On Head? Magic Pickle? So many to pick from, so little time to read….
July 28th, 2008 at 12:03 pm
I Would Have To Say Hellboy Is My Favorite From The Dark Horse Comics
