Ok, so fine. I finally have occasion to make room on this here blog for the Cthulhu Mythos, which makes the exotic names and epic, interwoven backstories of J.R.R. Tolkein novels look an entry-level exercise from Hooked on Phonics. Just reading the Cthulhu entry on Wikipedia made my (handsome, albeit lazy) brain hurt.
Enjoy GWS reader J.P.’s explanation of his Elder Sign tattoo, as well as his unnervingly-casual use of Ye Olde English:
‘Tis an Elder Sign from the fiction of H. P. Lovecraft, although there is some debate as to what said sigil looks like. Mine is taken from the commonly used version seen in the Call of Cthulhu RPG (and elsewhere). It’s on my upper back, ostensibly to protect me from whatever beasties may sneak up on me, though many friends have pointed out that the Elder Sign keeps things in as well as out. Oops.
Do you have a geeky tattoo you’d like to show off? Contact me with a photo and description, and I’ll consider profiling it in a post on this here blog.
