Giveaway: Comic-Con Swag Featuring the Bat-Signal Pen I Want to Keep for Myself!

By Great White Snark | October 20, 2008

Sure, Comic-Con ended in July, but the memories last a lifetime.  And so does the swag, if you keep it in a protective plastic bag on a seldom-visited shelf in your apartment, like I do.

Anyway, I made a visit to the aforementioned-shelf yesterday with my trusty Feather Duster of Alacrity for the monthly Ceremonial Enthusiastic Dispersal of Dust Mites.   Whereupon I realized I still had leftover, never-been-used swag from a press-only party at Comic-Con to promote DC Universe Online.

Click for larger view.

Freeing my apartment of clutter means good news for my Zen and good news for your delightfully-irrepressible consumerist habits.  Here’s what you’re getting in this prize pack:

I actually hate you a little for taking the pen off my hands.  I could amuse myself for hours shining the bat-signal on various surfaces in my apartment.  (And maybe I already have.  Maybe.)

To sign up to win this DC Universe Online swag:

This one’s for the true fans:  leave a comment on this post, naming your least favorite multi-issue “event” from the Batman comics in the last 15 years.  And why it’s your least favorite, of course.  That’s it.

I’ll select the winner at random and announce them in an update to this post next Tuesday, October 28.

UPDATE: AllAboutDuncan has taken the prize, but all of you true fanboys and girls who entered are winners in my chocolate-mint-flavored heart.

One entry per person. And remember, cheaters never prosper, because I’ve got your IP address, people: duplicate entries are dopey entries. Winners outside the forty-eight contiguous U.S. states pay shipping. Because this ain’t a money tree, it’s just a plain ol’ blog.

Batman “Knightfall”! Especially Batman #500! I thought it was a dumb idea to have someone else be Batman that wasn’t Bruce Wayne. I still have the sentiments that’s going currently with Batman RIP but since it’s still ongoing, I’m still in the wait-and-see phase.

Batman R.I.P. – Crazy Batman is one thing….Purple Batman? Too far, sir!

Batman: War Games – It was too long and the thought that Batman had something like that planned (and that Spoiler could start it) was ridiculous. It also led to the she’s dead, it’s her, wait she’s not, I knew it, rambling that dealt with Spoiler’s death.

Ok honestly I don’t know enough about the series to make a choice. But I really wanna win the pen for my brothers Xmas present. So please consider me anyway.

My least favorite: No Man’s Land, because it was way too long. Multistory arcs are one thing, but this was going through all the Bat-books for what, 80 years?

      Bah.

You don’t know how badly I need to win this contest.

Batman “Knightfall”, because it was when I first realized that none of the crazy events that happened were lasting AND that it was nearly impossible to collect all the issues to get the whole story. (I was limited to super rare trips to a comic shop).

Batman RIP. And in that, the Spoiler.

      I don’t like Tim’s new costume. It’s too…ehhh, too…*crotch gesture* Ehhhhh!

I have to concur with Michael Midnight…
      Bruce Wayne IS Batman…
      Robin is not Batman…

“A death in the family” Because it will never be worth what I paid for it when I was in middle school, and that amount of money meant a lot more to me then.

Hands down, it’s Knightfall: Bane, Azrael, broken back. Need any more be said? Because of this waaaaay over-hyped storyline, Bane is a waaaaay over-rated character in the DCU. More than anything, it’s just another prime example of the speculator boom/bubble/bust era. Knightfall = Absolute Garbage.

I want to say, “A Death in the Family,” but I’m not sure if it’s within the last 15 years actually. Why? Because letting readers vote whether or not to kill a character is just dumb. Heck, we’d kill ‘em all if we could.

If that was more then 15 years ago, then “No Mans Land” gets my vote. Why? Because Gordon is NOT a street gang leader and Batman would never leave Gotham under those conditions, even if he thought BW could do some lobbying. And where were the rest of the DC heros?

Knightsend Blew chunks due to the fact that I no longer got to see the Az-Bats costume. It was the shit! Right up there with the Scarlet Spider outfit.

The Bruce Wayne: Murderer and Fugitive storylines. His entire code is built around him not killing, yet the people he cares about start suspecting him of killing his girlfriend? What’s up with that? It was completely lame.

I am so in this for the pen. Me Likey Batman.

I would have to go with the arc from 2000. I think it was called Batman Dies. Nothing too fancy there. It was in a bunch of cross overs tie ins with the big headlines “This month, Batman Dies!” and it was the one where Bane got with Black Canary and had some funky action.

I hated it because of course Batman doesn’t die. The only real semi death he has (unless you count breaking his spirit and back ala Bane) is either in one of the crisis es when an AU bats dies or… when his heart is stopped but restarted. I can’t recall the issue right now but it was with the Electrocutioner

Anyway I disliked this one because this was actually thought to be funny by the writers and it just added to my jaded comicbook boredness phase.

I have to agree with the Nightfall. Not Batman without Bruce.

Lets go back further than Bane and Knightfall to I believe Batman: Venom. I know he overcomes, but I just dont care for the idea of Batman as a glorified steroid rager/junky. Thats all I got.

Congrats, AllAboutDuncan… there is much running around in the dark with a Batman pen light in your future.
