A Stolen Doctor Doom Tattoo – GWS Reader Ink
By Great White Snark | February 6, 2009
Earlier today, aspiring comic book artist Chris Hunt delivered this tale of bemused exasperation to my digital postal receptacle:
A while ago, I came across a drawing I had done of Dr Doom in High School, so I thought I’d go ahead and ink it and color it in PS for sng’s. A few days ago, I came across a pic from a guy know only as “guitar_hero_chubs” in my [Flickr] comments, that was my EXACT drawing only tattooed on this guys leg. I was somewhere between freaked out, pissed off and flattered. Duder wants me to draw him a Darth Vader one for his other leg now that I’ve talked to him. But not just any Vader mind you, Vader as illustrated by Ralph McQuarrie. It would seem this guy has some penchant for putting armor clad villains on his pasty calves.
First, cheers to Chris for the use of “duder.” You are owning 2003, and I love it.
Second, join me in a little exercise. Paint a mental picture of the guy whose screen name is “guitar_hero_chubs,” and then tell me it doesn’t look something like this guy.

I have to admit it is a cool drawing, and if someone is going to get a Dr. Doom tattoo, that is a pretty kickass version to get.
But I can understand why Chris would be upset by that as well.

Wow. And it looks a bit misshapen, too, but I don’t think it’s just because of the spot the tattoo is in or the angle.

I’ve been able to reconcile it. Chubs has essentially committed his calf to being a walking portfolio to me. I’ve decided that if I do the Darth Vader one for him, I won’t charge him if he tattoos my flickr address on there as well…
