By Great White Snark | April 27, 2009
It’s Tuesday, again. That means it’s time to change the respirator filters on your replica Darth Vader helmet, and time for another free DVD giveaway. Woot.
This week I’ve got The Curious Case of Benjamin Button Two-Disc Special Edition DVD, which drops May 5.
(Yep, this post is short-and-sweet. Feeling a bit under the weather. I’m not saying it’s swine flu or anything, but it’s at least some sort of barnyard varietal.)
To sign up to win a copy of The Curious Case of Benjamin Button Two-Disc Special Edition DVD:
- If you haven’t already, get an e-mail subscription to Great White Snark. It won’t cost you nuthin’.
- Leave a comment on this post. In the “Mail (will not be published)” field, enter the same e-mail address of your subscription, so I know who you are.
- In the comment, name your favorite movie that’s a shameless rip-off of another movie. Bonus points if the original flick was from the mid-1990s.
I’ll select the winner at random and announce them in an update to this post next Tuesday, May 5.
UPDATE: Meet your lovely and talented winner, Nickolai.
One entry per person. And remember, cheaters never prosper, because I’ve got your IP address, people: duplicate entries are dopey entries. Winners outside the forty-eight contiguous U.S. states pay shipping. Because this ain’t a money tree, it’s just a plain ol’ blog.

Road Trip with Breckin Meyer is a FLAGRANT rip-off of Overnight Delivery with Paul Rudd. Not sure why more people haven’t realized that…

Turistas was a shameless ripoff of Hostel. But perhaps the worst shameless ripoff…Indiana Jones and the Something Stupid About a Crystal Skull is a terrible ripoff of the entire Indiana Jones series.

Transmorphers! Robots…(not)…in…disguise…?

I’m not 100% sure it can count as a ripoff of the movie since it came out a month before Transformers, but it’s DEFINITELY a rip off of the entire idea behind it. Horrible, and obvious!

Lake Placid. A giant (fill in the blank) starts eating people. Like that’s never been done before?
But Batty White makes it all worthwhile.

Whoops I mean Betty

Well now all I can think of is benjamin button being ripping off forest gump haha
um..my favorite rip off…hmm I guess I’d have to go with A Moment to Remember. It’s a Koren movie with basically the same plot as The Notebook, but a younger version.

I highly suggest you watch that. It seems they ripped off both Spiderman AND Captain America.. and did to.. hilariously. Probably one of the best ripoff not-meant-to-be-a-spoof movies ever.

wrong turn was a shameless rip off of the hills have eyes… they just changed the state. good thing i loved them both!

the lion king, which i think was the early 90’s, was a big rip off of hamlet. great drama works in any setting i guess

I would have to say that Wanted was a bit of a Matrix ripoff. Not too much but just enough to make me go “hmm…”

’simply irresistible’ (late 90s) was a cheesy rip-off of ‘like water for chocolate’ (early 90s), but i loved sarah michelle gellar as buffy and sean patrick flanery in ‘boondock saints’

Quarantine certainly isn’t my favorite movie, but it’s a shameless rip-off of Spanish horror film [Rec] (2007).

lulz it would seem @VagabondClown has just discovered the magic of films made by The Asylum.

Crank and Crank 2 are a blatant ripoff of Doc Brown getting shocked in Back to the Future.
April 29th, 2009 at 9:50 am
While I kind of liked ‘The Departed’ it was a ripoff of a better Chinese movie called ‘Internal Affairs’
April 29th, 2009 at 11:50 am
Snakes on a Plane was a rip off of Anaconda. How do we make snakes even more scary was what the producers probably asked?
April 29th, 2009 at 12:51 pm
Starship Troopers was not necessarily a ripoff of Aliens, but it was close enough. Whatever, I loved both movies.

Well, Deep Blue Sea is pretty much a ripoff of Jaws. There’s sometimes a fine line between “remake”, “ripoff”, and “reimagining”… but that’s definitely along the ripoff lines.
April 29th, 2009 at 4:06 pm
Oh damn I was gonna say Deep Blue Sea. Well it totally is, anyway. Big shark eats people.

spaceballs and star wars? okay not so much a rip off, just a parody but that is some good stuff.
May 4th, 2009 at 12:26 pm
Equilibrium was equal parts Matrix and Fahrenheit 451. That plot didn’t have anything even remotely original in it. Still entertaining though.

Winner = Nickolai!
