Oh, man, what was the name of the fat demon in the tub? Buffy, season…2? Maybe?

Anyway, that’s the one I think of. He was just fat, and in a tub. Most of the other lame villains at least had some comedic value.

I still cannot figure out why those vampires did what he told them to.

    2. Wavatar Renee Says:
      July 7th, 2009 at 5:21 am

Lamest villain: I have to say, Balthazar, the big tub of demon in the episode Bad Girls of Buffy. That was probably one of the silliest demons I’ve ever seen. What good was he? He couldn’t fight. He couldn’t MOVE. Why the vampires didn’t just hack him up and go about their lives is beyond me.

    3. Wavatar Kate Says:
      July 7th, 2009 at 5:25 am

      Doctor Horrible, of course!
(and I know that’s intentional, but come on)
Anybody who invents a freeze ray just so he’s got enough time to think up ways to ask a girl out is super lame. I mean, she went for Captain Hammer, so her standards can’t have been THAT high…

    4. Wavatar Josh Says:
      July 7th, 2009 at 5:50 am

Lamest Joss villan: In my opinion it would be the Blue Sun Henchmen as seen in “Ariel”. This pair were your classic black-ops agents, just cookie cutter characters that don’t do anything but put a face to the big brother aspect developing in the series. They were not needed and if anything actually detracted from the slow build of unease in the series. In short, plenty of cheese but no substance.

P.S. I aparently never saw that episode of buffy the other two thus far mention.

    5. Wavatar Sarah Says:
      July 7th, 2009 at 6:16 am

Does Connor from Angel count as a villain? If not, he should. He is the most unlikable character in any show ever. When he turned up on Mad Men, I hated him 10x more than I probably should have, just because I despise Connor so much.

    6. Wavatar Mother of Bebo Says:
      July 7th, 2009 at 7:19 am

I’ll have to go with Jonathan as part of the “trio of nerd villains” in Buffy’s season 6. I think they could have gotten someone else to be part of the trio. Jonathan was never shown as having a “bad bone” in his body and he had been around since season one. Misunderstood nerd? Sure. Evil? Oh no.

    7. Wavatar Roxanne Says:
      July 7th, 2009 at 7:20 am

Since this contest is for Dollhouse I’m nominating Richard from episode 2 “The Target”. He’s that guy who likes to take girls out on camping dates and then starts hunting them like wild animals in the middle of it because his mom never bought him GI Joes/hugged him enough when he was little or something.

I’m guessing, they never really explained what that was all about, but because he was so lame, no one really cared. Also he did that stupid thing where he kept hitting his shoulder. He should probably win just for that alone.

    8. Wavatar Jo Says:
      July 7th, 2009 at 7:24 am

Glory. She was whiny and annoying.

    9. Wavatar Valerie Says:
      July 7th, 2009 at 7:26 am

I second Miss Glorificus. UGH Stop the whining!! lol

    10. Wavatar Serena Says:
      July 7th, 2009 at 7:26 am

Spike’s girlfriend, Drusilla, always annoyed me. That childish Cockney accent was more irritating than creepy. She made me change the channel more often than any other Buffy/Angel villian.

    11. Wavatar MysteryD8 Says:
      July 7th, 2009 at 7:37 am

I definitely have to disagree on Glory. While I hated her the first time I watched the season, she has become one of my favorite villains upon multiple viewings.

My least favorite villain? Dracula. Wasn’t it some sort of tie-in to the terrible Dracula miniseries aired at the same time? The episode was very anticlimactic and gave me no desire to watch the crossover, if there was one. I really disliked the actor who played Dracula as well.

    12. Wavatar maristgeek Says:
      July 7th, 2009 at 7:42 am

Oh no, the fact that I still haven’t watched Buffy and Angel is coming back to haunt me.

    13. Wavatar GreedySkunk Says:
      July 7th, 2009 at 7:44 am

That little kid that hung out with the Master.

    14. Wavatar Krenn Says:
      July 7th, 2009 at 7:49 am

How about Kralik? He had to stop fighting Buffy to take his medicine. That was rather pathetic…

    15. Wavatar Isdihara Says:
      July 7th, 2009 at 7:58 am

OK, he wasn’t a villain, but the first guy that came to mind was Clem, the baggy-skinned demon who liked kitten poker.

My lame villain vote goes to Glory from Buffy.

    16. Wavatar Caroline Says:
      July 7th, 2009 at 8:05 am

Okay, so I am a long-time lurker but have to get in on this. I think Amy’s mother (first season) is tremendously pathetic, not necessarily because of her villainy style but because she did it all to be IN HIGH SCHOOL and be a CHEERLEADER again. Who would want to go back to high school? Pathetic people. Who would do serious physical harm to others to get on a cheerleading squad? Pathetic people.

    17. Wavatar Izandra Says:
      July 7th, 2009 at 8:08 am

The Initiative from season 4 of Buffy. I hated Riley, and the entire season (except for Hush and Something Blue). The whole militia thing just didn’t work for me.

    18. Wavatar Kat Says:
      July 7th, 2009 at 8:30 am

Villains…. The early seasons brought us a few options here but I am going to opt for Andrew. He is also the lamest ‘hero’ that I have ever seen. In fact he’s just lame in general. It’s genetic or something though, since he is the brother of the boy who released hellhounds at the Prom… Wowza…

Also if I win this DVD I will so treasure it forever, putting it in my holy shinery grail place of things I won but would never actually buy for myself!

    19. Wavatar Katie Says:
      July 7th, 2009 at 8:40 am

      What a toughie!
But the one that is jumping up in my face saying “PICK ME!” is demon Lorne from season 5, ep 5 of Angel. Perhaps it’s because the episode is fresh in my mind, but…
That’s the one with the Halloween party where Lorne gets his sleep removed and unintentionally makes people do what he says and then he begins to create the anti-Lorne.
And it is so stupid! The anti-Lorne is a fat “mean” bumbling thing that it takes a party full of demons about five seconds to defeat him.
Meanwhile, they’re putting one of my favorite characters into bad light which made me sad.

    20. Wavatar Daniel Says:
      July 7th, 2009 at 8:43 am

I’ll have to agree that Balthazar, the evil figgy pudding, was a really lame villain.

I wanted to go with Gachnar, the demon from “Fear, Itself”, but he was just so darned cute…

    21. Wavatar Molly Says:
      July 7th, 2009 at 8:48 am

Worst villain? Easy. Evil!Willow. Maybe she doesn’t really qualify as a villain, but that whole arc was what made me quit watching Buffy for good. It was insulting on a number of levels.

On the off-chance that that doesn’t count, I’ll say Balthazar. Seriously, giant blob of demon soup? Not awesome. Not awesome at all.

    22. Wavatar Dawn Says:
      July 7th, 2009 at 8:48 am

Do I get extra credit for mentioning a villain that wasn’t in Buffy? Perhaps one that was in all three series?

I vote for the villains played by Carlos Jacott – “Lawrence Dobson” in Firefly, “Richard Straley” in Angel and “Ken” in Buffy. Guh. The makeup for “Ken” is enough to make a really lame villain, no?

    23. Wavatar Mara Says:
      July 7th, 2009 at 8:49 am

Balthazar, the tub ‘o’ vamp in Season two.

If not them, then the Initiative. Go away, Captain Cardboard.

    24. Wavatar pegolas Says:
      July 7th, 2009 at 8:49 am

      Adam from Buffy, season 4:

Part human, part demon, but 100% lame.

    25. Wavatar Bryant Says:
      July 7th, 2009 at 9:06 am

Worst Whedon villian ever? There have been a few missteps that have made me cringe, but the worst has to be the “Loan Shark” from season 6 of “Buffy”! I mean, wtf? It looks like the dude just wondered on the “Ninja Turtles” or “Power Ranger” set and onto “Buffy”. Also, the metaphor is painfully obvious…

I think I heard that creature design came up with multiple designs for the character and when the producers picked “shark guy” creature design just shook their collective heads.

    26. Wavatar Heidi Says:
      July 7th, 2009 at 9:31 am

Lamest villian…wow, this is going to be hard.

I’m going to go with one from Firefly. Tough. Either Saffron (YoSafBridge) or Badger.

Saffron gets her kicks from “proving” she’s better and smarter than everyone else. Yet has nothing and is twice taken down by the Serenity crew. Even if the first time was just barely.

River said it best about Badger: “I’ve known a dozen like you. Skipped off home early, running graft jobs here and there. Spent some time in the lock down, but less than you claim. And you’re what? Petty thief with delusions of standing? Sad, little king of a sad, little hill.”

But, at least Badger had a home and a fancy, fancy hat. So I’m going to go with Bridget, the one who failed (once spectacularly) in trying to get over on the crew. Plus, her efforts resulted in a very naked Mal. Which isn’t lame at all, just an added bonus.

(Also, timely prize…just noticed Dollhouse was up for pre-order and *almost* clicked. Stupid unemployment!)

    27. Wavatar Pammie Says:
      July 7th, 2009 at 9:35 am

Lamest villain? How about that “Loan Shark” guy on BtVS. Lame because it was so obvious, and really not that funny.

    28. Wavatar Wiredwizard Says:
      July 7th, 2009 at 10:06 am

Lamest villain? The “evil” trio from Buffy: Andrew, Johnaton & Warren. =rolls eyes=

    29. Wavatar nickolai Says:
      July 7th, 2009 at 10:24 am

Um, there was that one vampire thing. That was totally lame.

Screw it, I just want me some Eliza Dushku!

    30. Wavatar Dude Says:
      July 7th, 2009 at 10:36 am

My first choice would be Moist from Dr. Horrible. Although he is a funny and somewhat sympathetic character, he’s a pretty lame villain. Don’t know if this counts, as Dr. Horrible is technically not a TV show, but he’s the first one that came to mind.

In case Moist is DQ-ed, my second choice would be the ridiculous tub demon Balthazar from Buffy.

    31. Wavatar stephanie Says:
      July 7th, 2009 at 11:33 am

Moist from the sing-along blog. I love the part in the final montage when he can’t even hold on to those bags with dollar signs on them that you get when you rob a bank.

    32. Wavatar phoenixphire24 Says:
      July 7th, 2009 at 11:39 am

The pub manager (Jack?) from possibly the worst episode of Buffy ever from the worst season of Buffy: Beer Bad. The bartender wants to get revenge on his “annoying college patrons” for being mean or something. His revenge? Spike the drinks with a potion that turns them into Neanderthals. I can only suppose is supposed to be some comment on drinking too much. Oh nos!

    33. Wavatar JustAGirl Says:
      July 7th, 2009 at 12:36 pm

      Dracula. SO done… ugh.

    34. Wavatar JustAGirl Says:
      July 7th, 2009 at 12:38 pm

Dracula. Mist – are you KIDDING me? Plus, *so* done to un-death…

    35. Wavatar Ryan O Says:
      July 7th, 2009 at 12:52 pm

Hmmm…there were a lot of lame villains in both Buffy and Angel; but the one that I would cast my vote for was Adam. It just reminded me of something out of the game DOOM.

    36. Wavatar Addie Says:
      July 7th, 2009 at 1:18 pm

okay, glory was awful, but has everyone forgotten COLLIN??? the little boy from season one who bossed around the master? seriously. lamest. villain. ever. who didn’t cheer when spike dusted him?

    37. Wavatar Julie Says:
      July 7th, 2009 at 2:51 pm

Lamest villain ever… definitely the Ascended mayor, from season 3 of Buffy. As a giant, really fake looking snake that made the same noises as the velociraptors from Jurassic Park. Come ON.

    38. Wavatar Moises Says:
      July 7th, 2009 at 2:56 pm

One of the lame villians in one of Joss Whedons shows was on Firefly. Rance Burgess who was accompanied by thugs and horseman were always shooting at the people and always meeting up with the future people and then letting them escape. The cast in Firefly were people who transported to the future and they ended up in a western place being beaten by western people. It was a lame show, no wonder it got cancelled.

    39. Wavatar Bryant Says:
      July 7th, 2009 at 3:31 pm

Uh, Moises, maybe you thought Firefly was lame because you didn’t understand it. No one “transported” to the future. That’s like saying Star Trek is about “people transported to the future”. Also, who got beaten by western people? How high were you when you watched this show? Or did you just watch it in the order Fox original aired it?

I know this is probably considered a double post, but sorry. There have been a good amount of lame things in the Whedonverse, but Moises’ post is way lamer than any of them!!!

    40. Wavatar Tina Says:
      July 7th, 2009 at 3:49 pm

First, I’m going to second Bryant’s post about Moises.
Then I’m going to agree with phoenixphire24 about the bartender being the worst villain, and the neanderthals being the second worse. I was waiting for the stoner villain to come out and for the cast of Buffy to do a PSA at the end of the episode. Way lame!

    41. Wavatar Great White Snark Says:
      July 7th, 2009 at 4:00 pm

Let’s all go easy on Moises. He’s perfectly entitled to his ill-informed, nonsensical opinions.

    42. Wavatar Shanyn Says:
      July 7th, 2009 at 5:46 pm

I’m going to dozenth the vat o’ demon, fifth Dracula and also throw in the museum guy (who turned Xander into the hyena crazy) who was lame to the lameth degree for consideration.

    43. Wavatar Meagan Says:
      July 7th, 2009 at 7:12 pm

Gonna have to go with the Nerd Trio, as they pretty much define “lame” with their inability to do anything correctly, including being evil.

    44. Wavatar Dora Says:
      July 7th, 2009 at 9:08 pm

I would say the Loan Shark on Season 6 Buffy’s Tabula Rasa because it was so obvious and corny. He wasn’t even corny. Still, I think Whedon was going for the humor and if so he achieve it.

    45. Wavatar Victoria Says:
      July 7th, 2009 at 9:48 pm

Angel, but not when he was Angelus on Buffy. Not really a villian, but it was always “he’s his own worst enemy”. Every time they tried to play that up, he got all emo, and all I wanted to do was punch him in the face.

If you want to go with real villians, it has to be Glory. Those episodes were so hard to watch because of her whining.

    46. Wavatar Esther Says:
      July 7th, 2009 at 9:49 pm

The nerd troika from season 6 of buffy, annoying and troublesome.

    47. Wavatar pegolas Says:
      July 8th, 2009 at 6:40 am

Nothing like a Joss Whedon giveaway to get the lurkers (myself included)out into the open.

    48. Wavatar alyssa Says:
      July 8th, 2009 at 12:28 pm

Although I hate to say anything even slightly negative about my favorite show ever, I’d have to say the bounty hunter Jubal Early from Firefly was the lamest. He was almost kind of badass, but his suit was just so squeaky! Villains don’t squeak!

    49. Wavatar Syntha Says:
      July 8th, 2009 at 4:19 pm

My vote goes to the Buffy episode, where the demon is coming to the frat house and they spend the whole episode trying to get ready to vanquish it, and at the end when it does appear it’s 2 inches tall or so and they step on it and it’s over. It reminded me of that GI Joe episode where “the viper is coming”. They think COBRA is going to attack and at the end it’s only the “vindow viper” with a bad accent to wash the windows.

    50. Wavatar Liana Says:
      July 8th, 2009 at 5:13 pm

Man, I just bought this DVD. The show is really good!

This may be cheating, but I’m going to go with Pink Puncher – he had a brief cameo in Dr. Horrible, where he sat on a bed punching his pink boxing gloves together. Nice costume.

    51. Wavatar Michael Says:
      July 8th, 2009 at 5:48 pm

I’m going to have to go with the cafeteria lady in “Earshot.” Great episode overall but sorta a come down as a villain. Buffy the Disgruntled School Worker Slayer doesn’t really have the same ring to it.

    52. Wavatar JaneDoe Says:
      July 9th, 2009 at 2:45 am

Got to agree with those who said Balthazar. I mean, telekinetic powers or no, he was a big fat demon who sat in a tub pouring water on himself. Whose lame idea was that?

    53. Wavatar Marie Says:
      July 9th, 2009 at 7:47 am

Oh gosh…despite my undying love for Whedon, I have to go with the “Office” episode that Joss Whedon directed, the one about the bat that flew into the ceiling tiles. For Dwight, as bears-beets-battlestar as he may be, believing Jim’s vampyric transformation seemed to be quite a stretch.

      Besides, a bat’s a lame villain. They’re cute.

    54. Wavatar Henry Says:
      July 9th, 2009 at 9:25 am

How about Moloch, the Predator Robot demon thing from Buffy season 1?

    55. Wavatar Great White Snark Says:
      July 14th, 2009 at 6:43 pm

      Winner = Dawn
