Giveaway: Watchmen on Blu-ray!

By Great White Snark | July 25, 2009

In honor of Comic-Con, costumes, freedom, booth babes, and tonight’s live community screening of Watchmen – Director’s Cut with director Zack Snyder, I’m giving away a copy of Watchmen on Blu-ray.

Watchmen Blu-ray

Tonight, July 25, at 9:30p PST, the director’s cut of Watchmen will be screening at Comic-Con, and Zack Snyder will simultaneously be hosting a chat, courtesy of some fancy-pants future technology called “Warner Bros BD Live.” I believe it is comprised of Blu-ray machine components, internet tubes, and lots of electrical tape.

Get all the details on the live chat and screening.

To sign up to win a copy of Watchmen – Director’s Cut on Blu-ray, leave a comment on this post indicating your favorite “alternate universe” storyline from any comic book.

That’s right, kids, no subscription necessary. Just leave a comment that demonstrates your geek cred, and you’re in.

I’ll select the winner at random and announce them in an update to this post next Saturday, August 1.

UPDATE: And the prize goes to the person of indeterminate gender named “J.”

One entry per person. And remember, cheaters never prosper, because I’ve got your IP address, people: duplicate entries are dopey entries.  Winners outside the forty-eight contiguous U.S. states pay shipping. Because this ain’t a money tree, it’s just a plain ol’ blog.

Netflix – Only $4.99 a month! No Late Fees. Try it for Free!

      Age of Apocalypse.

I remember picking up V for Vendetta and absolutely loving every single page of that story. Which lead to me reading and equally admiring Watchmen. Moore really does have a knack for writing alternate histories in his work.

Age of apocalypse was my favorite alternate storyline

universes are created whenever a person makes a decision or an event happens. Please count me in.
      Many thanks, Cindi

X-Men: Age of Apocalypse was the storyline that got me into comics in the first place, so I’ll go with that.

Umm… I have almost every book that’ll tell you how to survive an invasion by zombies, aliens, ninjas, robots, whatever, as well as a poster and a T-shirt. I keep a sword next to my bed for just such an invasion.

The Rockumentary story in the Elseworlds 80-page giant. Where Lex Luthor was a music producer, the Titans a boy band with interchangeable members, and Harley and Ivy were the Indigo Girls.

I am torn between X-Men 141-142, “Days of Future Past”, and “Kitty’s Fairy Tale” in 153. I’d have to go with Kitty’s Fairy Tale. It may not technically be an “alternative universe”, but come on, it should be! :-)

Mage by Matt Wagner. Retelling of the Authurian legend in modern times. Best part? Excalibur is a glowing green baseball bat. Simply awesome.

I’ve read the original Longshot 6 issue miniseries, as well as owned the original 4 micro series comics that introduced the world to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles… back before the cartoon, the toys, the movie deals. Donatello is my favorite.

I am really loving Old Man Logan right now. But maybe my favorite alternate story of all time is Warren Ellis’ Ruins.

How about “The Once and Future Thing” storyline from Justice League Unlimited? Classic, classic stuff.

(Last try hasn’t shown up – sorry if this is a repost)

My two favorites are both from X-Men. I’m torn between “Days of Future Past” and “Kitty’s Fairy Tale”. I’ll go with “Kitty’s Fairy Tale” – it may not technically be an “alternate universe”, but it should be! :-)

I really enjoyed the Superman: Red Son elseworlds. I think it’d be my favorite. It’s well crafted and beautifully drawn.

“Mutant X” for Bloodstorm, with her willing donor Forge and her regret that the enslaved Kitty is no longer her real friend.

Okay, as a STORY the classic “Days of Future Past” does indeed rule. But Bloodstorm is teh WIN.

Red Son, mostly for everything not Superman. Supes was the most boring part of that story, it was seeing how he transplanted the major hitters of the DCU into that timeline that was interesting.

I am a collector of rare cards and I still remember the first time when I collected and traded all of the Marvel super heroes collection cards that were rare and had them enclosed in a folder and kept safe. I still have them but don’t really touch them because they are rare.

I like all the movies based on Dc comics and Marvel and already hold every collection of Dvds good or bad. I just picked up a copy of “The Spirit” and it was a great movie.

My favorite issue magazine has to be X-men and Spiderman because the story line and vivid story of each character is interesting on how they became heroes and saving lives.

Do animes count? they’re sorta like comics…. >.< haha,if it does count then my choice is the whole turning into animals thing because the chinese zodiac is real from fruitbaskets.

I like all those Stan Lee Presents DC Comics ones where I am assuming Stan Lee, senility catching up with him barged into DC Comics headquarters and demanded to write his own versions of their heroes. Like Stan Lee Presents Superman and and Green Lantern. Which were uncomfortable. But enjoyable.

Tie between What If #27 “What if Phoenix had not died?” and What if #19 “What if Spider-Man had never become a crimefighter”. What if’s count right? Loved those books.

I have to go with “Days of Future Present” from X-Men 141 and 142 also. Classics of the X-Men books and one of the first maturely treated alt universe storylines in Marvel.

    27. Wavatar TylerG Says:

Either the “Dark Knight” universe, or any of the old DC “Imaginary Tales” from the 60′s

I would have to go with Aunt May becoming “Golden Oldie” the herald of Galactus in Marvel Team Up #137.

A few years ago, I would have said “Batman/Superman Generations.” While I still like it, I’d have to say that “Superman: Red Son” is much better. Such an obvious trick, and yet one that would have been considered near treason mere decades ago. Millar’s “Ultimates” are awesome, but “Red Son” is one every comic book fan should read, even if to shore up their confidence in Big Blue.

I would have to go with Archie 3000? What’s better than Archie, Jughead, and the gang? Not much, but Archie in the future is still pretty much wicked awesome.

      Or not…

For bonus points I got a sub anyway!
