Contest Winner: The Best Storyline About Aliens from a Movie or TV Show Is…

By Great White Snark | March 1, 2010

Three-and-a-half eons ago, I launched a contest that featured a prize of the not-so-new-any-more Planet Hulk DVD.

Planet Hulk DVD

Subsequently, Lions Gate Home Entertainment and their PR company stiffed you people on the DVD they had promised and then botched their communication of said stiffing. Several Strongly-Worded Emails later, I do have good news: in addition to a $10 Amazon gift certificate (which will come from the warm recesses of my own pocket), the winner of the Planet Hulk contest will also receive a Planet Hulk poster signed by über-artist Alex Ross (who happens to have done the Planet Hulk box art).

I love a happy ending. Especially since it was turning out to be really challenging to craft a voodoo doll in the shape of a “Lions Gate”.

With that, I present to you my favorite entries:

Most Esoteric Reference, via Tyler B:

In quite possibly the best profit/plot motive ever, the aliens in Liquid Sky come to Earth to steal our heroin.

Best Run-On Sentence, via Johnathan B:

My favorite was the pliot from – They Live
where the aliens don’t want to kill us they don’t want to eat us the just want to rule us by using a satilite to make it so we can’t see subliminal messages or there true forms… Sort of and the only way they can be seen is by putting on some sunglasses… Yeah I’ll buy that
but I lovvveeee the part where Roddy Pipper walks into a bank sees a couple of them and say The Line “I have come here to chew bubblegum and kick ass… And I’m all out of bubblegum” and starts blasting the aliens with a shotgon and a colt

Most Matter-of-Fact, via Kyle:

Whenever I think of aliens, I always think of the original V, and that lizard baby sticking out it’s forked tongue.

Most Unnervingly-Random, via John E:

Hands down, without a question, it *has* to be that episode of Welcome Back Kotter where Horshack was abducted by Gray’s and anally probed. Seriously, I laughed, I cried, I fell down. It was Ok.

Driest Delivery of Sarcasm, via Wayne G:

There was this movie called Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull that had to do with aliens. It was kind of great, especially when he hopped in an old fridge and was thrown a great distance in a nuclear explosion.

Most Indisputably Correct, via Joshua B:

ALF!!!! c’mon, the writer was on heroin whilst coming up with stories about a cat-eating alien living with a middle class family, and made it a national craze!

And finally, the actual winner of the Planet Hulk contest–who ultimately won me over with a unexpected-yet-delightful Johnny-from-The-Karate-Kid shout-out–is Shad:

As a kid I loved a show called “Hard Time on Planet Earth”. Martin Kove (who played John “Sweep the leg” Kreese in the Karate Kid) was an alien soldier sentenced to learn humanity on Earth. He had a robot watcher named “Control” that was a little like Skeets from Booster Gold. Every week (all 12 of them it was on) they had to come to the aid of the little guy (us puny humans) and learn a lesson about being human.
If I were to watch it now I’m sure my hand would be covering my face at least half the time.

Congrats to Shad, who will soon be the proud owner of things of some monetary value. Hooray, things!
