WonderCon 2010 Costume Gallery – Part 3 [Cosplay]

The costumes at WonderCon 2010 featured a lot of crossplay. But not so much with the guys dressed up as lady-characters. Which seems kind of one-sided.

I’m a big fan of one-sidedness at the moment.

Papercraft Iron Man Costume
Papercraft Iron Man costume. Him: “Do you want the mask up or down?” [Starts playing with velcro attachments.]

Crossplay Link Costume
Crossplay Link costume. You’ve noticed how I open all these posts with some somewhat-sexy chick to lure you in, right? Yeah, I figured you had. You’re pretty sharp. On occasion.

Shredder Costume
Shredder costume and Hulk costume. Apparently the Shredder costume took a month to make. Those are golf tees sticking out of the gauntlets. (Trivia!)

Halo Costume
Halo costume. Not so funny.

Greatest American Hero Costume
Greatest American Hero costume. (Greatest-ish. Nice roots.)

Goth Costumes
I’m sure someone would be glad to tell me what the hell this is. Update: From Steph, Becca, The Broox, and greedyskunk in the comments: Toki Wartooth and Nathan Explosion from Metalocalypse. Toki looks to be holding a paper puppet of Pickles.

Crossplay Robin Costume
Crossplay Robin costume. There’s something funny going on here, and I just haven’t figured out what it is. Hint: it’s not the Asian-ness or lack of man-junk.

Crossplay Ghostbusters Costume
Crossplay Ghostbusters costume. This is the woman who said that the Klingon (in the background) “stinks”. Busted. To be fair, he really did.

Crossplay Flash Costume
Crossplay Flash costume.

Fairy Costumes
Fairy costumes. Me: “Yeah, but fairies from what?” Them: “We’re just fairies.” Me: “Ok.”

Captain America Costume
Captain America costume. Not so funny.

Big Brother Costume
Big Daddy costume from Bioshock. Right? Maybe? I don’t know. I don’t know anyone else with a giant drill on their arm.

Batman Costume
Batman costume. Yadda yadda fat joke yadda yadda.

Baroness Costume
Harley Quinn costume, Baroness costume, and some excuse to wear a wacky red wig.

Crossplay Asterix Costume
Crossplay Asterix costume. Of Asterix and Obelix fame. What? You’ve never heard of him? Gawd, you’re such an ignorant American.

Arkham Asylum Costumes
Arkham Asylum costumes. Dr. Quinzel and Poison Ivy. Awesome.

Ares Custome
Ares costume. Me: “Are you like Punisher gladiator or something?” Him: “I’m Ares.” Me: “Ah. Right.”

Archer Costume
Not sure what this is supposed to be, but it certainly appears to be an excuse to accessorize some astounding cleavage with random accoutrement. Update: From Izandra in the comments: I think the red archer girl might be Danielle Moonstar when she was with the Mutant Liberation Front.

Crazy Lady Costume
And that, my friends, is a straight-up crazy lady. You can tell from the cart full of balloons.

The unidentified goth chicks are Toki Wartooth and Nathan Explosion from Metalocalypse.

    Pic 6 – Deathklok

I think the first unknown is Metalocalypse: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metalocalypse

The two ladies above Robin are Toki Wartooth and Nathan Explosion from Metalocalypse. Toki looks to be holding a paper puppet of Pickles.

And thus Iron Man henceforth became known as Paper/Cotton-Poly Blend Man. The Toph behind him looks pretty good…

What’s with the Hulk’s albino hand? He takes the trouble of painting his face and dying his hair, but draws the line at his hand?

I think the chick with the wacky red wig is trying for Kasumi from Dead or Alive Video Game.

really nice Toph in the background of the Iron Man pic

At the risk of sounding like a cosplay geek, it’s only crossplay if they’re /trying/ to pass for the opposite sex. That much cleavage is just gender-bending.

    Nice gallery, as usual.

…and that really is an awesome Toph in the background.

I hate when women wear out of the box nerd costumes like the sexy Ghost Buster costume up there. They expend the same amount of effort in wearing the costume as some drunk chick on Halloween. It’s a convention, you have to work for it!

there’s a Toph for Avatar: The Last Airbender in the background of that first pic

  • PB April 9, 2010, 8:16 pm

I’m so glad they have conventions to encourage people to dress up like this. So we can laugh at them.

My first thought on seeing that female Flash: The eyes, the hair, the mask, the face, the bod, she’d make a much better Mrs. Incredible!

The problem with Robin is that she/he is wearing pantyhose instead of tights. You can see the thicker fabric at the tops of the thighs.

OMG Asterix win. I love when people go for something interesting and obscure rather than what’s popular at the moment.

And the archer girl really looks more like Lady Gaga with a bow and arrow to me.

I thought the lady in red was Elektra, from the cover of her 80s Frank Miller miniseries. . .
