Apparently in the 80s Korea was too busy invading the U.S. auto market with mediocre cars to produce any decent, original cartoons.* Check out the plot summary for the 1983 Korean film Savior of the Earth, by way of IMDB:

Acts of terrorism are happening in the USA, Japan, France and the Pacific Ocean. The man behind these events is Dr. Butler, who tries to rule the world with his powerful computers. To save mankind, Dr. Kim, Sheila and Keith, known as “Saviors of the Earth”, are summoned. The last battle, the Deadly Game, will take place inside a computer.

Sound familiar? Now check out footage from the movie and enjoy a particularly-disdain-packed case of deja vu.

And because insult tastes better when it’s mixed with injury, footage from Savior of the Earth was eventually edited together with three other (presumably also-craptacular) movies to form an uber-crap movie called Space Thunder Kids.

Spoiler alert for any of you planning on seeing the actual movie: it will be nowhere near as entertaining or satisfying as this two minutes and fifty-three seconds of animation.

I’ve long claimed that anime is nonsensical, boring, and ridiculous. And I’m happy to admit when I’m wrong: I mistakenly failed to mention that anime is also hilariously derivative.

Derek Lieu sampled the opening credits from over 80 different anime to illustrate that Japanese animators have even less originality than a Hello Kitty backpack.

Via Geekosystem, who doesn’t think there’s any need to drag Hello Kitty into this. Especially when “clubbing” and “burying” are so preferable to “dragging.”

So, 23-year-old college student Brittney Schneck funneled her pennies earned working as a part-time cashier and car-detailer into converting a ’94 Dodge Caravan into a straight-up Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles van.

I see a bright future for Brittney as the world’s favorite pizza delivery girl. Too bad about those two extra years of college education, though. Turns out she didn’t need them.

Sure, it’s impressive, but doesn’t making a giant, anime-inspired cake the overwhelming centerpiece of your wedding glorify the practices of poor communication, disproportionate emotionality, and inexplicable behavior? Is that really the tone you’re trying to set for your marriage?

Of course, anime also celebrates the enthusiastic and constant display of breasts and cleavage, so if the Mrs. is on board with that, then… cheers to ya, I guess.
